The Mimesis Art Museum has unveiled its sixth special exhibition, "MIMESIS AP6: SIGN," featuring the experimental and unique art world of young artists. The exhibition, which runs until June 11th, showcases the works of Baek Joseph, Yoon Sukone, and Seo Wonmi, who are all part of the MIMESIS ARTIST PROJECT (MIMESIS AP). The exhibition explores the artists' approaches to projecting contemporary life through their mirror-like painting works.
Exploring the Ever-Repeating Flow of History through the Exhibition
The exhibition aims to reveal the ever-repeating flow of history through the works of the three artists, where creation and destruction are revealed alternately. The artists' paintings serve as clues, allowing the viewer to explore the events, characters, and objects that reveal the times in more detail. The exhibition is divided into two parts.
Part 1: Baek Joseph's Works - "SIGN of the Times"
Baek Joseph's works are introduced in "SIGN of the Times," featuring the keyword "overlapping time." Baek portrays a time in which traces are erased, and things overlap again, evoking old and new memories. His approach to time-memory-image is reflected in the repetitive application of paint to create layers and scraping off several times to make them disappear. Baek's work raises questions about the significance of this process.
Part 2: Yoon Seok-won and Seo Won-mi's Works - "SIGN of the Society"
Yoon Seok-won and Seo Won-mi express events, characters, and objects that reveal the times in more detail in "SIGN of the Society." Yoon draws past and present characters, dead and living plants, and the inside and outside of places, while Seo uses a realistic yet abstract expression technique, repeatedly breaking and destroying delicate materiality on canvas.
A Look into the Artists' Backgrounds
Baek Joseph, Yoon Seok-won, and Seo Wonmi are all young artists who are part of MIMESIS AP, contemplating the social role of artists and building a provocative work world. Baek received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Department of Fine Arts at Hannam University and completed a doctoral course at the same university. Yoon majored in Communication Design (BFA) and Contemporary Art (MFA) at Konkuk University, while Wonmi graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Sungkyunkwan University.
The Mimesis Art Museum Continues to Support Young Artists
The Mimesis Art Museum continues to support young artists through the MIMESIS ARTIST PROJECT (MIMESIS AP), providing a platform for them to explore and express their unique approaches to art. The "MIMESIS AP6: SIGN" exhibition is a testament to the museum's commitment to fostering the growth and development of young artists.
Admission to the "MIMESIS AP6: SIGN" exhibition at the Mimesis Art Museum is paid. Visitors can check the museum website for more information, including admission fees and opening hours. The exhibition runs until June 11th, providing ample time for art enthusiasts to explore the works of Baek Joseph, Yoon Sukone, and Seo Wonmi and their unique approaches to projecting contemporary life through their mirror-like painting works.
