Park Yoonhie’s solo exhibition will be held at the Bichae Art Museum in Bangbae-dong, Seoul from September 16th to 29th.
In this exhibition, she plans to exhibit about 20 pieces including ‘East and West Winds’, ‘Images of Koreans’, ‘Visibility of Drones’ and ‘Hope of Chongqing’.
She has the characteristic of using Suganchaesaek(watercolor), which gives oriental mystery, as well as boldly using primary colors such as red, blue, yellow, and black. Suganchaesaek is a method of coloring with paints made by mixing natural materials such as mud with water. In particular, the technique of Suganchaesaek is excellent at depicting the inner emotions of a human being.
The primary colors found in her works are both seductive and eager, approaching more intensely than the structure and form of the subject. Colors seem to be an important message she is trying to convey.
Her message can be summarized in two parts. Her message can be summarized in two ways: relationship and connection. Her artistic direction, called ‘relationship’ and ‘connection’, is to deliver the message of human communication and empathy, peace and reconciliation to the public through her works.
Park said, “During the Korean War, the night sky I saw on my grandmother's back was full of lights and gunshots. I think that experience left me with a thirst for peace and reconciliation, and I think it had a great impact on my works.”
Although her works meet the audience in a limited space, this is the reason why her works are diachronically connected to the modern history of Korea, raising various topics to the audience.
‘Visibility of Drones’ is a bird’s-eye view of a landscape looking down from a high place. This technique is widely used in traditional painting. However, by using the form of looking down from a 'drone' instead of a traditional bird, she finds a point of contact with the audience and contemporaries spatially as well.
Park said, “People often talk about peace and reconciliation only between countries, and between cultures, but I think that peace and reconciliation are also necessary between the young generation and the old, the present and the past.”
Recently, she is also interested in artworks drawn by Hermann Hesse, who is famous as the author of the novel ‘Demian’. Because his works give people a message of healing and salvation.
Park said, “The colors and composition of Hermann Hesse's paintings seem to embody the salvation he was trying to convey through his novels and poems. Looking at these works, I also pay attention to the healing and salvation of humans who are becoming more lonely and isolated.”
She studied with former director of Leeum Museum of Art, Hong Ra-hee, and Seoul National University’s College of Fine Arts, where she majored in Western Painting in graduate school. After that, she has participated in dozens of group and individual exhibitions. Her works are owned by major institutions such as various art museum.
