British Artist Toby Ziegler's "Broken Images" and Korean Sculptor Kwon Jin-kyu's "The Reliefs" on Display in Seoul

PKM Gallery, a prominent commercial gallery in South Korea, is currently hosting two exhibitions featuring artists with enduring connections to the gallery. Toby Ziegler, a British contemporary artist, presents "Broken Images," while the late Korean sculptor Kwon Jin-kyu is featured in "The Reliefs."

Toby Ziegler, Broken Images:
Ziegler, a British contemporary artist, returns to PKM Gallery in Seoul after exhibitions in 2015 and 2019. The exhibition showcases Ziegler's shift back to fabric canvases from the rigid aluminum featured in his previous exhibition. Ziegler's process involves printing a 3D-modeled background image onto a smoothly gessoed and sanded surface. The title of the exhibition, "Broken Images," is derived from a passage in T. S. Eliot’s 1922 poem "The Waste Land," portraying imagery decayed by war and civilization's turmoil. The exhibition, exploring reinvention and relevance in paintings, runs through December 23.

Kwon Jin Kyu: The Reliefs:
The late Korean sculptor Kwon Jin-kyu is honored in the exhibition at PKM Gallery's annex building. Kwon, a pioneering figure in modern and contemporary Korean sculpture, passed away 50 years ago. The exhibition features eight terra cotta relief works produced in the mid-1960s.

The exhibition, highlighting Kwon's contribution to the concept of "Korean realism," runs through December 9. In 2021, Kwon's bereaved family donated 141 works to the Seoul Museum of Art, and a permanent exhibition space dedicated to the artist was established at the Nam-Seoul Museum of Art.
