Director Heo Myeong-haeng Promises Enhanced Comedy, Intense Action, and Deeper Storyline

Scheduled for release on April 24, "The Roundup: Punishment," the fourth installment of the hit film franchise, is anticipated to bring audiences an elevated cinematic experience with improved comedy, intensified action, and a more intricate storyline. Director Heo Myeong-haeng, who previously served as a stunt coordinator for the series, shared insights into the upcoming film.

The narrative centers around detective Ma Seok-do (Ma Dong-seok), investigating a drug-trafficking app that unravels connections between the app's developer and an illegal gambling cartel led by Baek Chang-gi (Kim Moo-yul) in the Philippines. The storyline unfolds as Ma collaborates with fellow detectives and the cybercrime squad to apprehend Baek and his partner, IT genius Chang Dong-cheol (Lee Dong-hwi).

Director Heo emphasizes the preservation of the unique tone and flavor of the previous films while enhancing the overall cinematic experience. The film aims to build on the success of its predecessors, including "The Outlaws" (2017), "The Roundup" (2022), and "The Roundup: No Way Out" (2023), all of which exceeded 10 million ticket sales.

Notably, "The Roundup: Punishment" made its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, marking the first time a film from the series received such an invitation. Actor Ma Dong-seok, who also serves as the film's producer, expressed gratitude for the recognition of the film's cinematic value and is eager to see the audience's response.

Actor Kim Moo-yul, portraying the ruthless villain Baek, shared his meticulous efforts to convey the character's violent nature through gaze, actions, posture, and vibe.
