Renowned actor Lee Sung-min, who captivated audiences in 2022 with his performances in two suspenseful series, "Shadow Detective" and "Reborn Rich," expressed his unwavering confidence in the upcoming second season of Disney+'s mystery-thriller, "Shadow Detective."
During a press conference held at CGV Yongsan in central Seoul on Monday, Lee revealed that the series would introduce new characters and expand upon the original storyline. He emphasized that his character, Taek-rok, has undergone changes, stating, "If 'Shadow Detective' showcased dynamic, breathtaking action in the first season, the upcoming season will delve into the realm of espionage, featuring Taek-rok's psychological warfare." Lee's assurance of a different tone for the second season instills anticipation in viewers who are eager to experience the thrilling twists and turns that lie ahead.
Director Han Dong-hwa described the upcoming season as a hand-to-hand skirmish against an invisible enemy, departing from the one-sided game of the first season. He added, "Viewers will feel like they are watching an espionage film," underscoring the heightened intensity and suspense awaiting fans.
"Shadow Detective" Season Two, returning after an eight-month hiatus, continues the story of Taek-rok, a seasoned detective on the cusp of retirement, who finds himself falsely accused of a murder he did not commit. Taek-rok becomes entangled in a dangerous web of blackmail orchestrated by the true perpetrator, known as Friend. The first season concluded with Taek-rok fervently pursuing the elusive killer.
Director Han emphasized the unique charm of "Shadow Detective," setting it apart from other suspense thrillers. The series delves into the narrative of Taek-rok, allowing viewers to easily comprehend the detective's thoughts, emotions, and motivations, forging a strong empathetic connection. Han believes that "Shadow Detective" possesses elements of a human drama, capable of eliciting tearful moments and showcasing Lee's exceptional talent in bringing Taek-rok to life. The director even admitted to being so engrossed in Lee's performance that he occasionally forgot to call "cut" on set.
Gyeong Su-jin, who portrays junior detective Sung-a, hinted that the second season would delve into the detailed stories of other characters, satisfying viewers' curiosity. She shared, "Many people wondered why Sung-a displayed unwavering trust and respect for Taek-rok in the first season. Such questions will undoubtedly be addressed in 'Shadow Detective 2.'"
The highly anticipated eight-part second season of "Shadow Detective" is set to release two episodes every Wednesday, starting from July 2, exclusively on Disney+. As fans eagerly await the return of the beloved series, the promise of new characters, intense psychological warfare, and intricate storytelling heightens anticipation for the gripping suspense that lies ahead.
