At the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, BTS's Jungkook clinched the Top Global K-pop Song award for his single "Seven," expressing gratitude to fans and Billboard in a pre-recorded acceptance speech. This marks Jungkook's first solo win at the BBMAs, adding to his 12 previous wins as part of BTS. The Top Global K-pop Song is one of the nine new award categories introduced this year.
Stray Kids earned the Top K-pop Album award for their third LP, "5-Star," which dominated the Billboard 200 chart in June, remaining for 16 weeks. Member Bangchang expressed gratitude to their global fanbase, known as STAYs, and highlighted the impact of their support on the group's journey. This recognition makes Stray Kids the second K-pop boy group, after BTS, to receive a BBMAs award. The group debuted their BBMAs performance with singles "S-Class" and "LALALALA."
NewJeans, a five-member K-pop girl group that debuted in 2022, secured the Top Global K-pop Artist award. They expressed honor for the nomination alongside esteemed artists and pledged to continue creating universally enjoyed music. NewJeans made history as the first K-pop girl group to perform at the BBMAs, showcasing their singles "Super Shy" and "OMG."
In summary, the 2023 BBMAs celebrated Jungkook's solo success, marked historic achievements for Stray Kids and NewJeans, and acknowledged Blackpink's groundbreaking tour, solidifying the global impact of K-pop.
