Jungkook of BTS has set a historic record by selling 2.5 million copies of his first full-length solo album, "Golden," making him the first K-pop soloist to achieve this milestone since Hanteo Chart renewed its sales tracking system in 2010. The album reached this remarkable sales figure within three weeks of its release on November 3, according to Hanteo Chart.
Notably, "Golden" sold a million copies within three hours of its release and surpassed 2 million after five hours, becoming the most-sold album within a day. Within the first week, the album sold 2,438,483 copies, establishing Jungkook as the highest-selling K-pop solo artist within that timeframe.
To celebrate the achievement, Jungkook held a showcase titled "Golden" at Jangchung Arena in Jung District, central Seoul, performing 12 songs, including every track from his album. The showcase, lasting two hours, featured the artist's first extended solo performance.
The showcase was attended by RM, a fellow BTS member, who expressed pride in Jungkook's accomplishments. The event was also streamed live on the global fandom platform Weverse for fans who couldn't attend in person.
Jungkook, whose real name is Jun Jung-kook, debuted with BTS in 2013 and released his first solo single, "Seven," on July 14. His solo career has seen significant recognition, with the artist winning Top Global K-pop Song at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards for his track "Seven" featuring American rapper Latto. Jungkook remains the only K-pop soloist to receive an award at the ceremony.
