Director Wes Ball, known for his work on the "Maze Runner" trilogy, introduced "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," the fourth installment of the rebooted "Planet of the Apes" franchise, during an online press conference held Tuesday.
The film, scheduled to debut in local theaters on May 8, explores a narrative set 300 years after the era of Caesar, an intelligent chimpanzee who previously led the apes. In this new era, apes have risen to dominance, relegating humans to the shadows. The storyline follows Noa, portrayed by Owen Teague, as he embarks on a quest to rescue his abducted family and friends from the clutches of Proximus, portrayed by Kevin Durand, a ruthless leader who disrupts the peace of a tranquil ape clan.
During his journey, Noa encounters Mae, played by Freya Allan, a feral human, and Raka, portrayed by Peter Macon, an evolved orangutan. Together, they strive to shape the future of both ape and human societies, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Caesar.
The director highlighted the importance of realistic visual effects (VFX) in immersing the audience in the world of apes. With approximately 30 to 35 minutes of full computer-generated imagery (CGI) incorporated into the film, every detail, from the movement of blades of grass to the entire environment, is meticulously rendered to create a seamless viewing experience. Ball expressed his hope that viewers would seamlessly integrate into the visually stunning world depicted in the movie.
