Students from The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) have successfully secured admission to prestigious university programs in the creative and performing arts, marking what school officials describe as an exceptional year for artistic achievement at the institution.
The aspiring creative professionals from this year's A-level graduating class have earned guaranteed spots in diverse programs ranging from musical theater to fashion design at renowned institutions including the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). These achievements highlight the strength of the school's arts education and the talent of its student body.
Among the successful applicants is Zack, who will attend Northumbria University to study theater and performance. Having already showcased his talents by playing Gavroche in the school's production of Les Misérables, Zack reflected on the experience with enthusiasm. "Being part of such a huge cast and crew - and working alongside a 25-piece orchestra - was such an honor," he said, describing the production as a formative experience in his artistic development.
Another standout student, Bertie, has secured admission to RADA where he will study technical theater and stage management. His involvement in the school's production of Little Shop of Horrors, where he worked on puppetry, provided him with invaluable hands-on experience. "It was a dream come true!" Bertie exclaimed, emphasizing how the practical experience prepared him for his university studies.
Lottie, who will pursue musical theater at York St John University, praised the school's commitment to supporting future artists. She highlighted how GSAL's recent investment in a state-of-the-art performing arts center will significantly benefit both upcoming students and the broader community. The facility, known as The Cryer, was named in honor of alumnus and comedy legend Barry Cryer and was officially opened earlier this year.
Sue Woodroofe, Principal at GSAL, expressed her pride in the students' achievements and the school's artistic program. "It has been a brilliant year for the arts at The Grammar School at Leeds, which has seen the launch of The Cryer, dozens of concerts, performances and productions," she stated. "I am delighted that the arts are thriving and to see these talented students pursuing their passion makes me feel incredibly proud." Her comments underscore the school's dedication to fostering creative talent and providing students with the resources and opportunities needed to succeed in competitive artistic fields.
