Ho Khue Architects has completed the Saha Casa Boutique hotel in Da Nang, Vietnam, introducing a striking new approach to coastal hospitality design. The five-story building, complete with basement and rooftop pool, stands prominently along Morrison Street and sets itself apart from the surrounding glass-faced high-rise hotels through its distinctive bold yellow stone facade, naturalistic curves, and richly textured materials.
The hotel's most dramatic feature is its cantilevered swimming pool that extends six meters beyond the building's edge, creating a bold architectural statement against the skyline. The pool's glass front, constructed from specialized acrylic panels, offers sweeping panoramic views of the coastal surroundings while creating an impressive sense of weightlessness for swimmers and observers alike.
Throughout the Saha Casa Boutique, the Vietnamese architectural team has focused on creating a comprehensive multisensory experience for guests. Visitors encounter the cool touch of stone beneath their feet, breathe in the natural fragrance of plants carried on coastal breezes, and enjoy the gentle sounds of flowing water throughout the property. All photography of the completed project was captured by Trieu Chien.
The design team drew significant inspiration from natural imagery, particularly cave formations, to shape the hotel's distinctive shell and interior spaces. The building's flexible floor plan deliberately alternates between open and closed areas, where soft arched doorways and windows thoughtfully frame corridors, garden spaces, and guest rooms. This carefully planned contrast between solid architectural elements and void spaces is enhanced by the extensive use of granite terrazzo, a traditional and environmentally friendly material whose rough texture naturally modulates sunlight and wind flow throughout the building.
A central atrium serves as the architectural heart of the ground floor, flooded with natural light and featuring both a decorative fish pond and carefully selected plantings. From this central gathering space, hallways branch outward like organic arms, guiding visitors through spaces that are layered with abundant greenery and gentle curved surfaces. Emerald carpets and strategically placed vertical gardens help direct the eye between different floors, creating a strong sense of connection to nature while inviting guests to explore and discover new spaces as they move throughout the building.
Architect Ho Khue has reflected thoughtfully on the project's underlying philosophy and design goals. The architect noted that the primary aim was to create a building that successfully evokes a sense of architectural artistry while simultaneously remaining a comfortable and welcoming retreat for all guests. This balance between artistic expression and functional hospitality represents a fresh reimagining of the coastal hotel typology that has become common in Da Nang's rapidly developing tourism sector.
