Blue House(Cheong Wa Dae), open to the public, has been reborn as a complex cultural and artistic space. Public event: The first Special Exhibition by the disabled Artists kicked off and is attracting public attention.
This special exhibition in collaboration with The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK BO Gyoon) and The Korean Federation of Cultural and Arts Organizations for the Disabled (President Bae Eun-Joo), which started on the 31st of last month, will be held on the second floor of Chunchugwan until September 19.
The title of the exhibition is ‘Into the People, Into Harmony’. Chunchugwan, where the exhibition is being held, is the press conference hall of former presidents.
In the project, 60 works by 50 artists with developmental delays and hearing impairments are on display. Of these, 59 were selected through a public contest in the fields of Western painting, Korean painting, literary painting, calligraphy, and handicraft.
In particular, Artist Jung Eun-Hye's work is well received by the audience. She who appeared in the K-Drama 'Our Blues', exhibited works depicting the appearances of 'Young-hee (Jung Eun-Hye)' and 'Young-ok (Han Ji-min)' shown in the drama. Yong Hee (the character she played) and Young Ok (the character played by actress Han Ji Min)
In addition, Kim Hyun-woo's, which was hung in the office of President Yoon Seok-yeol at the time of the Korea-US summit in May, is also on display and is loved by visitors.
A distinctive feature of the exhibition is that the Braille catalog allows the visually impaired to directly experience works by touching it. The visually impaired can imagine the shape of the drawing by touching the embossed portion of the Braille brochure.
The Federation of Disability Culture and Arts Association of Korea President Bae Eun-Joo said in an interview with sayart, “I am delighted to be able to present the first special exhibition of the Blue House with the works of artists with disabilities. This project is very meaningful as it is the first case of supporting neglected arts and people with disabilities to continue artistic activities.”
She continued, “The catalog is to contain the image of works. However, That kind of catalog cuts access for visually impaired people. To solve this problem, We have created a special Braille catalog where visually impaired can even feel various works with the touch of their hands.”
In addition to the Braille catalog, this exhibition provides Braille guides, audio guides(audio docents), and sign language interpretation for disabled visitors.
And Other preparations have been made for the disabled, such as providing wheelchair access for the physically handicapped.
During the exhibition period, an interpreter explains the work to the audience twice a day (11 am and 3 pm), and on weekends, the artist has time to meet the audience in person.
On ChuseokDay(Sep.10, Sat), Artists JUNG Eun Hey and KIM Hyun Woo will explain their work to the audience.
It is closed every Tuesday, and admission is free without prior registration. If you need assistance in moving visitors with disabilities to the exhibition hall, please call (070-7668-1690).
