A unique double exhibition at a commercial gallery in Dumbéa Mall showcases two distinct artistic approaches to celebrating nature's smallest wonders. Thierry Galois presents a stunning collection of macro photographs capturing the intricate world of insects, while Caroline Anezo displays sculptural installations crafted from natural materials. Both artists express their deep connection to nature through patience, precision, and meticulous attention to detail.
Thierry Galois, a multi-faceted visual artist better known by his pseudonym TEG, is presenting his first macro photography exhibition after years of perfecting his craft. The photographer explains his fascination with the microscopic world: "I realized that seeking out small details in the world of the minuscule allows you to discover things that you simply cannot see with the naked eye." His work reveals the hidden beauty and complexity of insects that typically go unnoticed in everyday life.
Galois's photographic journey spans ten years and encompasses over four thousand photographs, each telling its own unique story. The process combines the emotional thrill of encountering insects with technical expertise and, most importantly, extraordinary patience. "It's completely exhilarating to wait for the right moment," Galois explains. "There's also a lot of frustration because out of a hundred shots, it's rare to have three or four that work. But when you get the right shot, the dopamine kicks in. You tell yourself: 'That's it, I've nailed it.'"
Complementing the photography exhibition, visual artist Caroline Anezo presents her distinctive approach to magnifying natural elements through sculptural works. One striking piece features driftwood adorned with hundreds of pine scales from columnar pines. Anezo describes her creative process: "It starts with collecting materials, and little by little, it becomes a process, gestures that I will repeat for months." Her methodical approach transforms ordinary natural debris into extraordinary art pieces.
Another example of Anezo's meticulous craftsmanship includes a creation made entirely from real cicada wings. Through her work, the artist elevates natural materials while stimulating viewers' imagination, turning discarded elements of nature into thought-provoking installations that blur the lines between sculpture and environmental art.
Titled "The Secret Gardens of the Minuscule," this double exhibition will remain accessible to the public until Saturday, August 30th. The show offers visitors a rare opportunity to explore the intersection of photography and sculptural art, both focused on revealing the extraordinary beauty hidden within nature's smallest elements.
