Mind's Eye / Galerie Adrian Bondy is presenting "Down on the Street," a captivating exhibition featuring the dynamic street photography of Japanese artist Takehiko Nakafuji. The show displays carefully selected images from his recent book of the same title, alongside works from his earlier publication "White Noise," offering visitors a comprehensive look at his distinctive photographic style.
Nakafuji's photographs are particularly recognized for their remarkable dynamism and raw energy, which are further amplified through his signature high-contrast printing technique. This bold approach creates such a vivid and immersive experience that viewers genuinely feel as though they are walking down the street alongside the photographer, experiencing the urban environment through his lens.
Born in Tokyo in 1970, Nakafuji brings both academic training and entrepreneurial spirit to his craft. He graduated from the Photography Department of Tokyo Visual Arts College and has since established himself not only as an accomplished photographer but also as a gallery owner, operating Gallery Niepce in the Yotsuya district of Tokyo. His dual role as both artist and curator gives him a unique perspective on the contemporary photography scene.
Throughout his career, Nakafuji has demonstrated remarkable productivity and dedication to street photography, publishing ten books that predominantly feature black and white imagery. His photographic journeys have taken him across the globe, capturing the essence of urban life in diverse locations including Russia, Cuba, China, Hong Kong, Paris, New York, and various countries throughout Eastern Europe. This extensive travel has allowed him to develop a truly international perspective on street photography.
The photographer's work has gained significant recognition in the art world, with his photographs being held in the permanent collections of three prestigious Japanese museums: the Kiyosato Museum of Photo Art, the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, and the Shunan City Museum of Art and History in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Additionally, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both within Japan and internationally, establishing his reputation as a leading voice in contemporary street photography.
The "Down on the Street" exhibition runs from October 25 through December 14, 2025, at Mind's Eye / Galerie Adrian Bondy, located at 221 rue Saint-Jacques in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. A special vernissage will take place on November 13, with the photographer himself in attendance to meet visitors and discuss his work. The gallery maintains specific viewing hours, operating Monday through Friday by appointment only, and opening to the public on weekends from 2pm to 7pm. Interested visitors can contact the gallery at 06 85 93 41 92 or visit www.mindseye.fr for more information.
