The Kunsthaus Meyenburg recently held an award ceremony for its photography competition titled 'Through the Flower,' which was organized in conjunction with a special exhibition of the same name. The competition successfully attracted photographers not only from Nordhausen but also from surrounding cities including Ellrich, Görsbach, Cottbus, and Berlin, inspiring participants to venture into nature with their cameras and smartphones to capture floral subjects.
The competition received an impressive total of 83 photographic submissions. According to Susanne Hinsching, Director of the Municipal Museums of Nordhausen, the most beautiful and interesting works are now displayed on the second floor of the Kunsthaus. From all submitted photographs, a panel of expert judges selected four prize winners.
The first prize was awarded to Manfred Gösel from Nordhausen for his photograph titled 'Crocus with Dewdrops.' Katja Grothe received the second prize for her work 'Floral Encounter,' while Nordhausen resident Kerstin Göthel claimed third place. A special prize for creative artistic interpretation was awarded to Berlin-based photographer Antonius.
The floral-themed prizes were presented by Oliver Wönnmann, Chairman of the Kunsthaus Meyenburg Support Association, as the organization sponsored all awards. Wönnmann expressed his delight at the overwhelming response to the photography competition and was pleased that the support association could once again make a meaningful contribution to supporting the Kunsthaus.
The photography exhibition will remain on display until September 14 in the corridor beneath the tower at Kunsthaus Meyenburg. This means that visitors interested in floral art can now experience a total of 140 artworks featuring flower motifs, combining both the competition entries and the special exhibition pieces.
The event highlights the successful collaboration between local cultural institutions and community support organizations in promoting artistic engagement and celebrating the beauty of nature through photography. The diverse geographic representation of participants demonstrates the competition's broad appeal and the universal attraction of floral photography as an artistic medium.
