The Calligraphy and Korean Painting Association of Brazil recently hosted a prestigious appointment ceremony for invited artists, marking a significant milestone in Korean-Brazilian cultural exchange. The formal event took place on August 16, 2025, at the renowned Oswald de Andrade Cultural Center in São Paulo, bringing together Korean cultural leaders and Brazilian artists to celebrate traditional Korean artistic practices.

The ceremony was organized through a collaborative effort between the Calligraphy and Korean Painting Association of Brazil, the Korean Calligraphy and Art Promotion Association of Korea, and the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil. This partnership demonstrates the growing international recognition of Korean traditional arts and their expansion into the South American artistic community.

During the official proceedings, Kim Cheul Hong, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil, personally presented certificates of appointment to four distinguished resident artists. The newly recognized invited artists include Mok Eum (Jung Sang Han), So Yeun (Chun Ja Kang), Yu Kyung (Jong Woo Sim), and Uoo Tchon (Hwe Kwon Lee). Each artist received formal recognition for their exceptional contributions to Korean calligraphy and painting within the Brazilian cultural landscape.

All four honored artists have previously distinguished themselves at the Korea National Calligraphy and Art Exhibition, earning recognition for works that demonstrate both technical excellence and creative originality. Their artistic achievements represent years of dedication to mastering traditional Korean techniques while adapting these ancient practices to contemporary artistic expression. The diversity of their styles and approaches showcases the rich variety within Korean calligraphy and painting traditions.

To celebrate this achievement and share Korean artistic heritage with the broader community, the artists' works are currently featured in a special exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center in São Paulo. The exhibition, which runs from August 12 to August 30, provides both the local Korean community and the wider Brazilian public with a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and depth of traditional Korean calligraphy and painting. The display includes various styles and techniques that highlight the versatility and sophistication of these ancient art forms.

Speaking about the significance of this appointment ceremony, Kim Cheul Hong emphasized the broader cultural implications of the event. "This appointment marks an important step for the deeper exchange and promotion of Korean calligraphy and painting within Brazil's cultural and artistic community," he stated. "We look forward to continuing our efforts to foster cultural dialogue between Korea and Brazil through diverse activities." His comments reflect the ongoing commitment to strengthening cultural ties between the two nations through artistic collaboration and educational initiatives.
