The Swiss Arc Award 2025 recognized ten outstanding architectural projects from Swiss firms in its twelfth edition, marking a record year with 418 submissions across nine categories. The prestigious competition, organized by the Swiss architecture portal Swiss Arc, attracted entries from Swiss offices working both domestically and internationally, demonstrating the global reach of Switzerland's architectural community. The jury panel, comprising renowned architects Ludovica Molo, Dominique Salathé, Roger Boltshauser, and Remo Derungs, conducted a multi-stage selection process that first identified 50 shortlisted works before selecting the final ten winners. The awarded projects span a remarkable range of typologies, from sensitive heritage interventions to innovative learning environments and poetic landscape installations, reflecting the diversity of contemporary Swiss design thinking. In the residential category, the Guggach housing and commercial settlement in Zurich by Donet Schäfer Reimer Architekten received top honors for its thoughtful integration of living and working spaces. The work and production infrastructure category recognized two distinct projects: the Binzstrasse office and commercial building in Zurich by EM2N, and Hortus in Allschwil by internationally acclaimed firm Herzog & de Meuron, showcasing different approaches to workplace design. The education and health category celebrated the University Children's Hospital in Zurich, a collaboration between Herzog & de Meuron and landscape architects August & Margrith Künzel, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary design in healthcare settings. For leisure and lifestyle, the Circle of Birds project in Lausanne by En-Dehors, Ellipsearchitecture, Julien Mercier, and Christophe Guberan demonstrated innovative public space design. The interior architecture award, presented for the first time this year, went to Andreas Fuhrimann Gabrielle Hächler Architekten for their sensitive renovation of a row house in Gockhausen, setting a benchmark for residential transformation. The transformation category recognized the facade redesign of the Energy Plant Unterfeld in Zug by Lütjens Padmanabhan Architektinnen and Bischoff Landschaftsarchitektur, exemplifying how infrastructure can be aesthetically enhanced. In the special categories, the Next Generation Award was presented to Hétérotopies 95200 from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, supporting emerging talent. The Lifetime Achievement Award, endowed with 6,000 Swiss francs, honored the distinguished careers of Kaschka Knapkiewicz and Axel Fickert from Zurich. All other prizes carried a monetary award of 3,000 Swiss francs each. The Audience Prize was awarded to Samir Alaoui Architectes from Lausanne for their multi-purpose building in Forel, demonstrating public appreciation for community-focused design. The Swiss Arc Awards continue to serve as a vital platform for recognizing excellence in Swiss architecture and promoting discussion about the future of the built environment.
