Kangwon National University’s Department of Fine Arts, under the leadership of department chair Lee Jae Seon, will hold its 48th Graduation Exhibition from November 26 to December 2. The event will take place at the art gallery on the second floor of the Baekryeong Sports Center and is open to the public daily from 9 AM to 6 PM with free admission.

This year’s exhibition is themed Greenhouse: With All Our Heart, symbolizing the nurturing environment of the university where students have cultivated their artistic skills and are now ready to embark on new creative challenges. A total of 30 graduating students will showcase 58 works, including 48 Korean-style paintings and 10 sculptures, representing the culmination of their four years of dedicated study and artistic growth.

The opening ceremony on November 26 will officially commence the week-long event, celebrating the achievements of these emerging artists. The exhibition not only highlights the students’ technical proficiency and innovative approaches but also provides a platform for them to share their artistic voices with the broader community.

Department Chair Lee Jae Seon emphasized the significance of the graduation exhibition as a milestone for the students. “This exhibition is a vital opportunity for our students to present the creative outcomes of their learning and experiences during their time at the university,” he stated. “I hope it serves as a stepping stone for our graduates to grow into even more accomplished artists and offers visitors a valuable glimpse into the passion of these young creators.”

The title Greenhouse: With All Our Heart carries dual meanings. On one hand, it reflects the university as a safe space for exploration and growth, much like a greenhouse for nurturing plants. On the other, it conveys the heartfelt dedication students have poured into their works, representing their readiness to take on the challenges of the wider art world.

The exhibition showcases a variety of themes and styles, from traditional Korean landscapes to contemporary interpretations of identity and form. Each piece reflects the students’ evolving perspectives and artistic identities, offering visitors a diverse and engaging experience.

This year’s graduation exhibition also aims to bridge the gap between academia and the public, encouraging art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike to engage with the fresh perspectives of emerging talent. By making the exhibition accessible to all, the Department of Fine Arts fosters a deeper appreciation of art within the local community.

As the graduating students prepare to leave the “greenhouse” of the university, the exhibition marks both an end and a beginning. For many, this event is a launchpad into professional artistic careers, carrying with them the skills, creativity, and determination honed during their time at Kangwon National University.
