IU, one of South Korea's most beloved artists, has once again demonstrated her commitment to philanthropy by donating 500 million won as the year comes to a close. On December 25, EDAM Entertainment announced that IU donated the name "IUaena," a combination of her stage name and her fan club name, UAENA.
The substantial donation was distributed across a variety of organizations, both domestic and international. Beneficiaries include Seoul Asan Medical Center, Seoul Child Welfare Association, Hamkkeutneun Sesang, Warm Accompany, and other notable groups.
At Seoul Asan Medical Center, IU’s donation will support elderly patients in financial difficulty, individuals with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and women battling cancer. Through the Seoul Child Welfare Association, the funds will be used to strengthen self-reliance programs for young adults transitioning out of the child welfare system.
Additionally, IU contributed to Hamkkeutneun Sesang to improve living conditions for underprivileged households, and Warm Accompany to create customized spaces for people with disabilities. The nonprofit Open Welfare will use the funds to operate shelters for homeless individuals.
IU’s contributions extended beyond South Korea. With Plan Korea, her donation will aid overseas children by improving access to clean water and healthcare. Through Walking Together Children, she supports cultural and artistic programs for children in disadvantaged communities. The organization Love Snail will allocate the funds to provide hearing aids for children with hearing impairments.
This latest act of generosity is part of IU’s long-standing tradition of giving back to society on meaningful occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, and year-end holidays. In September, she celebrated her 16th debut anniversary by donating 25 million won under the name IUaena.
IU’s dedication to philanthropy not only cements her as a leading figure in the entertainment industry but also as an inspiration for using influence to create positive change. Her efforts continue to impact a wide range of causes, spreading warmth and hope to countless individuals during the holiday season and beyond.
