This exciting development comes just days after the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council revealed that Dambo will also be constructing another giant troll sculpture somewhere in East Providence, demonstrating the growing popularity of these artistic installations throughout Rhode Island.
The state already boasts two impressive troll sculptures named Erik Rock and Greta Granit, both located at Ninigret Park in Charlestown. These sculptures marked the beginning of what has become known as the Rhode Island troll trail, attracting visitors from across the region who come to experience these magical creations that carry important messages about protecting the planet.
The upcoming North Kingstown troll is one of two new installations made possible through a grant secured by the South County Tourism Council. The second sculpture will be built and installed somewhere in Richmond, further expanding the trail's reach across the state.
With three pending sculptures currently in development, Rhode Island's troll collection will grow to an impressive total of five installations. It remains unclear whether the trail will expand beyond these five sculptures in the future, but the current expansion represents a significant investment in public art and tourism development.
While the grant will cover the majority of the overall cost, North Kingstown has launched a comprehensive sponsorship campaign to ensure the town's first public art installation receives full funding. Several local businesses have already stepped forward to support the project, including McKays Front Porch, Heritage Kitchens, and Rhode Island Energy, all of which have pledged to sponsor the troll sculpture.
The town is also actively seeking volunteers to assist Dambo throughout the construction process, offering community members a unique opportunity to participate in creating this landmark installation. Those interested in joining the effort can sign up online for work sessions, which are scheduled as four-hour shifts on various days and times between August 13th and 24th.
Thomas Dambo's troll sculptures have gained international recognition for their impressive scale, creative use of recycled materials, and powerful environmental messages. Each installation is carefully designed to blend with its natural surroundings while encouraging visitors to consider their relationship with the environment.
The expansion of Rhode Island's troll trail represents a significant cultural and tourism initiative that combines public art, environmental awareness, and community engagement. As the state prepares to welcome three new installations, anticipation continues to build among residents and visitors eager to discover these magical creations that transform ordinary parks into extraordinary destinations.
