The Gyeonggi Content Agency (GCA) has announced its ‘Future Content Production Support’ program to foster the growth of the virtual convergence industry within the province. The initiative, with a total funding pool of 750 million KRW, is now open for applications until February 25. The program will select 15 companies across three categories: Future Technology Convergence, Platform Utilization, and Device Specialization.
This program is designed to support the development and production of content and services within the virtual convergence sector. It will fund seven companies specializing in AI, XR (Extended Reality), and other cutting-edge technology-based content development under the Future Technology Convergence category. Additionally, four companies will be selected in the Platform Utilization category, focusing on commercialized metaverse platforms or self-developed platforms for content creation. Lastly, four companies will receive support under the Device Specialization category, which focuses on spatial computing, AR glasses, VR headsets, and other next-generation devices.
The Future Technology Convergence category has seen an increase in base funding to 70 million KRW per company, reflecting rising demand. Similarly, funding for the Platform Utilization category has increased by 5 million KRW, now set at 35 million KRW per company. The Device Specialization category, recognizing the market’s growth potential, has expanded its selection from three to four companies.
Eligible participants include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups headquartered in Gyeonggi Province that are engaged in virtual convergence content and service development. Companies with headquarters outside Gyeonggi can still apply if they have a branch, subsidiary, or business registration within the province, though affiliated research institutes are not eligible. Aspiring entrepreneurs must register their business in Gyeonggi Province before signing the agreement. Notably, this year’s program removes the seven-year startup restriction, broadening the range of eligible businesses.
Tack Yong Seok, President of the Gyeonggi Content Agency, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, "With the enactment of the 'Virtual Convergence Industry Promotion Act' and the 'Gyeonggi Province Virtual Convergence Industry Promotion and Support Ordinance,' the government is actively fostering the development of this sector. GCA, in collaboration with the province, will continue to provide proactive support to ensure the industry’s growth."
Applications must be submitted through the Gyeonggi Content Agency’s official website by February 25 at 11:00 AM. For further details, applicants can refer to the agency’s announcement or contact the Future Content Team at 031-8064-1728 or metaverse@gcon.or.kr.
