SM Entertainment has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Girls' Generation member Taeyeon from malicious online activities. On December 2, the company released an official update regarding the ongoing legal action against defamatory posts, insults, and sexual harassment targeting the artist.

The statement highlighted SM Entertainment’s proactive measures, which include collecting evidence through fan reports and internal monitoring systems. The volume of evidence is substantial, amounting to thousands of malicious posts and comments.

The agency stated, “Based on the collected evidence, we have filed hundreds of criminal complaints with law enforcement agencies for defamation, insults, and related charges.” This demonstrates their unwavering stance against online harassment.

SM Entertainment also shared updates on the outcomes of several cases. Many suspects have been identified, and investigations are actively underway. In two recent cases, the accused received conditional non-prosecution rulings, including mandatory education at probationary facilities, while another case was closed due to the suspect's death.

In past incidents involving minors, the agency resolved cases after obtaining written apologies from both the individuals and their parents. However, SM emphasized that adult offenders have faced more severe consequences, such as fines and conditional prosecution.

The agency reiterated its no-tolerance policy: “We have consistently pursued legal action against malicious individuals and will continue to do so for the remaining cases.”

Looking ahead, SM Entertainment pledged to take firm action against any defamatory rumors or attacks on Taeyeon’s character. “There will be no leniency,” the statement emphasized. “We will do everything necessary to protect our artist.”

The move reflects a broader trend in the entertainment industry, where agencies are increasingly standing up to cyber harassment to ensure the mental well-being and dignity of their artists. Taeyeon’s case serves as a significant example of an artist and their agency actively combating the pervasive issue of online abuse.
