RIIZE, one of the rising stars of K-pop, is set to release a reimagined version of TVXQ’s iconic debut track, Hug, on January 8 at 6 PM KST. The single will be available across major platforms, including Melon, Flo, Genie, iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, QQ Music, and Kugou Music, providing fans worldwide with a nostalgic yet fresh start to the year.
SM Entertainment, the group’s agency, revealed, “RIIZE has prepared a special gift for global fans to celebrate the New Year. They’ve reinterpreted a legendary K-pop track with their unique, top-tier color and style.” This release marks a significant moment as it bridges two generations of K-pop, blending TVXQ’s classic sound with RIIZE’s modern artistry.
Originally released in 2004, Hug was TVXQ’s debut single and a cultural milestone in the early K-pop era. For this remake, acclaimed arranger Park Moon Chi infused the track with Y2K aesthetics and a trendy soundscape, delivering a refreshing neutral vibe that complements RIIZE’s youthful energy. The updated version is expected to resonate with fans of both the original and contemporary K-pop.
On January 7, RIIZE teased the release with a stage video snippet on their official website. The preview showcased the group’s harmonious Acappella arrangement and bright vocals, sparking anticipation for the full release. Their distinct interpretation highlights their ability to reinvent a classic while maintaining its heartfelt charm.
Fans attending SMTOWN LIVE 2025, held on January 11–12 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, will be the first to experience other tracks by RIIZE live on stage. This concert, a celebration of SM Entertainment’s 30th anniversary, promises a lineup of special performances and collaborative reinterpretations of iconic SM songs.
SM Entertainment’s milestone year is marked by ambitious projects, including the launch of a commemorative album focusing on the label’s rich musical history. These initiatives aim to engage global audiences and pay tribute to the company’s enduring influence on the K-pop industry.
A key highlight of this anniversary celebration is the reinterpretation of SM’s greatest hits by its current and former artists, reimagining the label’s legacy through fresh, team-specific styles. This effort not only honors SM’s musical heritage but also offers fans a novel way to experience their favorite tracks.
RIIZE’s Hug remake stands as a testament to their versatility and SM Entertainment’s ability to innovate while respecting its roots. The anticipation surrounding this release signals its potential to become a standout moment in both the group’s career and the label’s celebratory year.
