K-pop girl group Aespa is set to release the English version of their hit track Whiplash, the title song from their fifth mini album, on March 27 at 1 PM KST. Alongside the new single, the release will also feature a remix with a distinctly different sonic character from the original.
Marking a significant moment in their global journey, Aespa will unveil the performance of the English version for the first time at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music, scheduled to take place on March 29 in Los Angeles. This marks the group's official stage appearance at the prestigious event.
In recognition of their global impact and chart-topping achievements over the past year, Aespa has been named the 2025 Group of the Year by Billboard. This accolade places the group among a select few K-pop acts honored at the annual ceremony celebrating influential women in the music industry.
Whiplash is a track defined by its pulsating basslines and house-inspired beats. The lyrics convey a confident message of moving forward on one’s own terms, unbound by expectations or societal norms—an ethos that resonates with Aespa’s futuristic, self-determined brand.
The English version aims to amplify the group’s resonance with international audiences and to expand their presence in the Western pop market. As K-pop continues to evolve into a genre without borders, such strategic linguistic adaptations are increasingly common for globally active acts.
This upcoming release and Billboard performance are expected to build momentum for Aespa’s second world tour, SYNK: PARALLEL LINE, currently underway. The tour spans major cities across North and South America as well as Europe, cementing the group’s standing as one of K-pop’s leading global ambassadors.
Aespa, consisting of members Karina, Winter, Giselle, and Ningning, debuted in 2020 under SM Entertainment. Since then, they have gained a substantial global following and established themselves as one of the genre’s most forward-thinking acts.
With their Whiplash English version and Billboard debut, Aespa continues to blend bold musical experimentation with commercial appeal, solidifying their position as a cultural force on the global stage.
