Kimreeaa Gallery is set to launch its first exhibition of 2025, Small Paintings – My Bijou!, a group exhibition featuring 23 artists, presenting over 70 small-scale works. The exhibition will run from February 6 to March 7, with the opening reception scheduled for February 6 at 4 PM.
This exhibition delves into the unique charm and intimate appeal of small paintings, encouraging visitors to embark on a special journey of discovering their own bijou—a French word meaning a "small jewel." Unlike large-scale works that often command grandiosity, small paintings create a more personal and immersive experience, drawing the viewer closer to the intricate details and emotions embedded in each piece.
Historically, larger artworks have dominated the art world, but small-scale pieces offer a different kind of engagement—one that emphasizes delicacy, storytelling, and a sense of proximity between the artist and the viewer. These works demand a high level of concentration and creativity from the artists, as the limited space challenges them to encapsulate complex narratives and emotions within a compact format.
The exhibition will feature works from artists including Kim Ahra, Kim Chan Song, Shin Jaeyoun, Casper Kang, and many more. Each artist brings a distinct approach to small-format art, incorporating diverse inspirations such as traditional architecture, personal experiences, nature, and abstract expressionism.
Kim Ahra explores traditional architecture and patterns, reinterpreting them through layered compositions on canvas. Kim Chan Song examines the boundaries of the body and nature, visually expressing the blurred lines between familiarity and the unknown. Shin Jaeyoun captures fleeting, sensory experiences from daily life, translating them into a unique visual language through colored pencils and silver pens. Casper Kang, on the other hand, deconstructs and reconfigures traditional Korean materials, merging them with contemporary elements to create structurally abstract images.
Kimreeaa Gallery stated, “This exhibition aims to highlight the rich narratives and emotional depth contained within small paintings. We invite visitors to experience the delicate beauty of these works and discover a piece that resonates with their own story.”
The gallery is located in Apgujeong, Seoul, and operates from 11 AM to 6 PM (closed on Sundays, Mondays, and public holidays). More details can be found on Kimreeaa Gallery’s official website and Instagram.
