Chicago artist Dominick Di Meo, a pioneering figure of the Monster Roster, has passed away at the age of 97.
He was widely known for his surrealist paintings and collages that revolutionized the Chicago art scene in the 1960s.
As a key member of the 1960s Chicago artist group known as the 'Monster Roster,' Di Meo charted a unique course distinct from the prevailing trends of Pop Art and Minimalism in New York.
Having suffered from polio as a child, he developed an interest in the human body and death, drawing inspiration from various world civilizations to shape his artistic style.
News of his passing has prompted many in the art world to pay tribute to his artistic legacy.
