Stephen Friedman Gallery will present a compelling group exhibition at Art Basel, held from Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Messe Basel in Switzerland.

This exhibition, located at Booth J03, features a distinguished roster of artists, including Mamma Andersson, Tonico Lemos Auad, Leilah Babirye, Jonathan Baldock, Stephan Balkenhol, Sarah Ball, and many more.

The gallery's presentation at Art Basel showcases a diverse array of media, including painting, sculpture, textiles, and drawing, emphasizing both new and important historical works from internationally renowned artists.

Highlights of the exhibition include new works by Leilah Babirye, Jeffrey Gibson, and Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, all of whom are participating in the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

Recent additions to the gallery's artist roster are also prominently featured, with Clare Woods presenting a new imposing still life painting and Woody De Othello's bold and theatrical sculptures and paintings on display.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view Kenturah Davis’s striking double portrait and Jim Hodges’ large hand-stitched denim panel painted with 24-carat gold.

Significant earlier works available for sale for the first time include Caroline Coon’s enigmatic painting "Glastonbury Festival" (2000) and a rare painting from the Rossinante series by Huguette Caland.

Additionally, Denzil Forrester’s monumental painting "Stryder" (1985), depicting a lively dance club scene, is featured, highlighting its historical importance.

Leilah Babirye and Jonathan Baldock are currently showcasing solo exhibitions at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the UK, while Jeffrey Gibson’s solo exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre in Norwich and his upcoming show at MASS MoCA in Massachusetts underscore his prominent status.

Yinka Shonibare’s "Suspended States" is on view at Serpentine in London, and Sarah Ball is featured in the group exhibition "Infinite Woman" at Fondation Carmignac in France, with a solo exhibition at the Longlati Foundation in Shanghai opening in 2025.

Caroline Coon's inclusion in "Women in Revolt!" at National Galleries Scotland, Melvin Edwards’ touring solo show "Some Bright Morning" at Fridericianum in Kassel, Germany, and Andreas Eriksson’s solo exhibition at the Siftelsen Lillehammer Museum in Norway further exemplify the gallery’s diverse portfolio.

Kehinde Wiley’s solo exhibition "A Maze of Power" is currently on view at the Museum of Black Civilisations in Senegal and will continue to tour the United States, while Luiz Zerbini’s upcoming solo exhibitions at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Rio De Janeiro and Brasilia showcase the gallery’s international reach.

Stephen Friedman Gallery continues to expand its presence with its recent relocation to Cork Street, London, and the opening of its first location outside the UK in Tribeca, New York.
