Taeyeon, the leader and main vocalist of Girls’ Generation, will not participate in SM Town Live 2025 in Seoul, an event marking SM Entertainment's 30th anniversary, as announced online on Friday. The concert, set to take place on January 11–12, 2025, was expected to feature Taeyeon as one of its headline performers. However, SM Entertainment has not provided an official statement regarding her withdrawal.
This news comes as Taeyeon continues her solo activities, following the release of her sixth solo EP, Letter to Myself, last month. The album arrived approximately a year after her previous mini-album, To. X. Taeyeon described the new album as “one down from my old to-do list,” adding that completing the six-track project brought her a sense of fulfillment.
Letter to Myself showcases Taeyeon’s signature vocal prowess, paired with introspective lyrics and intricate arrangements. Critics and fans alike have praised the album for its emotional depth and musical versatility, reaffirming Taeyeon’s position as a leading solo artist in the K-pop industry.
Debuting as a soloist with her EP I in 2015, Taeyeon has since built an illustrious solo career, releasing three full-length albums and six mini-albums. Her discography is widely recognized for its ability to traverse diverse genres while maintaining a strong emotional resonance.
Although her absence from the SM Town Live 2025 stage may disappoint some fans, it reflects her current focus on personal projects and exploring new creative avenues. Taeyeon’s contributions to SM Entertainment’s legacy as both a group leader and solo artist remain unparalleled, with each release solidifying her reputation as one of K-pop’s most enduring and versatile performers.
Fans continue to express anticipation for her next moves, with many speculating on possible new projects in the pipeline. While her decision not to join the milestone event in Seoul has raised questions, it also underscores her ongoing dedication to her artistry and the pursuit of meaningful achievements in her musical journey.
