Album centers on ending an unreciprocated relationship six months after the group’s previous release

ILLIT will release its fifth EP, “BREAK EVEN,” on Oct. 26.

The title is drawn from the economic term “break-even point,” where costs and revenue are equal. According to Belift Lab, the album addresses a relationship in which emotional effort is not returned and declares an end to investing further time and attention.

While the group’s earlier songs often portrayed an open and direct approach toward another person, “BREAK EVEN” shifts that position. The new release will present a warning to someone who responds without equal commitment and frame the moment as a turning point in the relationship.

A full track list and other details have not yet been announced.

The EP will arrive about six months after ILLIT released its fourth mini album, “Mamihlapinatapai,” in April. That record was led by the techno-oriented title track “It’s Me.”

ILLIT also released its second Japanese single, “I Got Your Back,” this year. Its title track, “I Got Your Back (Feat. JISOO, MOMOKA of HANA),” was used in the soundtrack for the ABEMA original series “The Vacation Principle” and peaked at No. 2 on Billboard Japan’s Hot 100.

The Seoul, Hong Kong and five-city Japanese dates of the group’s first tour, “ILLIT LIVE ‘PRESS START♥,’” sold out. Encore concerts are scheduled for Incheon in October and Chiba, Japan, in December.
