Internationally renowned Balancing Artist Rocky Byun presents a groundbreaking exploration of equilibrium through sound in his solo exhibition NEW: Balancing the World, running from February 18 to 28 at SooHoh Gallery in Bundang, Seongnam.

Rocky Byun has gained worldwide recognition for his remarkable ability to balance objects on seemingly impossible points, including stones, bottles, bicycles, washing machines, and even telephone booths. His mesmerizing skill in defying gravity has been featured on major global media platforms, including CNN, BBC, Discovery Channel, and FOX TV. Through performances in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Kazakhstan, he has elevated balancing art to a recognized contemporary discipline.

While his past works focused on the physical balance of objects, NEW: Balancing the World expands the concept to include the dynamics of sound, resonance, and collision. As part of SooHoh Gallery’s 2025 curatorial theme, ‘Environment and Art,’ this exhibition introduces sound as an unseen yet essential element of balance. The installation features unconventional objects such as a violin and a broom-shaped bamboo sculpture, transforming them into resonant instruments that interact with their surroundings. Everyday environmental sounds—including nature, ambient noise, and spoken dialogue—are reinterpreted as sculptural components, providing visitors with an immersive and multi-sensory experience.

Rocky Byun’s work challenges conventional perceptions of both sound and balance, demonstrating how vibrations and sonic frequencies create invisible yet perceptible harmony. The exhibition encourages audiences to consider how sound shapes spatial awareness and emotional equilibrium, often going unnoticed in daily life.

On February 26 at 2 PM, SooHoh Gallery will host a special artist talk and participatory performance, allowing visitors to engage directly with Byun’s artistic vision. “Sound is not merely something we hear—it structures space and time, shaping our sensory experiences,” Byun explains. “Through this exhibition, I aim to explore the hidden balance of sound and express the harmony we often overlook.”

By integrating sound into his signature balancing practice, Rocky Byun offers a compelling new perspective on stability, perception, and the unseen forces that govern our world. This exhibition is set to redefine the boundaries of balance, both in the physical and auditory realms, inviting viewers into an innovative and thought-provoking artistic journey.
