WDG, a leading esports company, has officially opened its new esports stadium, WDG Studio Hongdae, within the newly completed Hongik University Art & Design Valley. The move marks a significant upgrade for WDG, which previously operated a 300-seat esports studio at Daehan Cinema. The new venue, almost double in size with a 600-seat capacity, is set to become a major hub for esports and cultural events in the heart of Seoul.
The Hongik University Art & Design Valley, which completed construction in October 2023 after three years of development, is an expansive 17,190 square meters complex. Built on the site of the former "Hongdae Wall Mural Street," the facility aims to be a center for entrepreneurship, community collaboration, and cultural exchange. It includes facilities for startups, education, and artistic initiatives, making it an ideal location for the innovative and growing esports industry.
Located on the first basement floor of this landmark building, WDG Studio Hongdae is designed to host esports competitions in a versatile, multi-functional hall. The venue has been specifically remodeled to accommodate large-scale gaming events, with additional features such as a lobby and event booths, offering visitors an immersive experience. Attendees will be able to engage with interactive exhibits and enjoy a variety of activities beyond the live competitions.
In addition to its capacity and facilities, WDG Studio Hongdae boasts excellent accessibility. It is conveniently located near several major transportation hubs, including Hongik University Station (Line 2, Airport Railroad, and Gyeongui-Jungang Line) and Sangsu Station (Line 6), all within a 10-minute walk.
WDG’s new facility is not limited to esports competitions. The venue is set to function as a multi-purpose space, available for product launches, showcases, conferences, and other cultural events. This transformation reflects WDG’s ambition to create a comprehensive entertainment and event space that caters to a wide range of audiences.
WDG has successfully hosted numerous official esports tournaments over the past two years, averaging over 170 event days annually. The majority of these events were sold out, demonstrating the growing demand for live esports experiences. With the move to the Hongdae area, WDG expects even more visitors and fans to engage with their events.
The new esports arena is a pivotal part of WDG's plans, positioning itself as a key player in the esports scene while contributing to the broader cultural and artistic landscape of Hongdae.
