K-pop icon G-Dragon is set to make a highly anticipated return to the music scene with the release of his digital single “Power” on Thursday, November 1, 2024, at 6 p.m. KST, according to his agency, Galaxy Corporation.  

This marks G-Dragon’s first solo release since his 2017 EP “Kwon Ji Yong,” ending a seven-year hiatus. The new track is described as a hip-hop composition that combines addictive beats with intense rap, showcasing G-Dragon’s signature style.  

In a recent appearance on tvN’s variety show “You Quiz on the Block,” which aired on October 30, G-Dragon discussed the inspiration behind “Power.” He revealed that the song reflects on the concept of power, stating, “For me, music is my power.” He further elaborated that during his seven-year break, he became acutely aware of the profound influence of media. The song carries multiple meanings, including a satirical take on media power and a call for harmony among different types of power.  

The release of “Power” has been met with significant anticipation from fans and the music industry alike. Shortly after its release, the single dominated real-time music charts, underscoring G-Dragon’s enduring influence in the K-pop industry.  

G-Dragon, born Kwon Ji-yong, debuted as the leader of the boy band BIGBANG in 2006. He has been instrumental in shaping the K-pop genre, known for his innovative music and fashion sense.
