Nexspace, the blockchain subsidiary of gaming giant Nexon, has officially launched the second Pioneer Test for its ambitious blockchain-based project, MapleStory Universe, starting from November 20 through November 29. This testing phase, which differs from the initial test limited to around 1,000 users, takes an open beta (OBT) format, allowing a broader audience to experience the ecosystem of the new PC MMORPG MapleStory N and its integrated decentralized applications (dApps) such as the marketplace and explorer.

This second Pioneer Test invites not only avid gamers but also fans of the original MapleStory IP to participate in and explore the extended blockchain environment. It offers players a variety of reward-based activities designed to introduce them to the blockchain ecosystem. For example, users who connect their wallet to the official website and participate in daily logins can earn daily experience coupons, which can then be sold on the marketplace to acquire NESO, the in-game currency.

The open beta also features a range of rewarding activities. Users participating in MapleStory N’s daily check-in event or NXPC competition can earn NXPC, the project’s foundational currency, with a total reward pool of 5 million NXPC. Nexspace has promised further details on event participation and reward acquisition methods, which will be disclosed as the testing phase progresses.

One particularly notable feature of the second Pioneer Test is the “Make Special Name” event. Players can earn alphabet and numeric NFTs, which can be combined to create unique character nicknames. Given the history of MapleStory nicknames trading for as much as 30 million KRW (about 25,000 USD), it is anticipated that this event will attract competitive participation among users looking to secure desirable character names within the game.

According to Nexspace, the primary goal of the second Pioneer Test is to rigorously assess the integration of blockchain elements with the MapleStory Universe and receive valuable user feedback. The testing process will serve as a foundation for further refining MapleStory Universe, to launch a polished and well-optimized version in the first half of next year.

MapleStory Universe represents a unique intersection between a beloved game IP and blockchain innovation, offering new avenues for player engagement and ownership. This test phase marks an important step in Nexspace’s approach to creating a user-driven ecosystem, where players can not only enjoy immersive gameplay but also monetize their participation through blockchain technology. In addition to daily interactions and currency earnings, the Pioneer Test allows players to explore a range of dApps, thereby getting a sense of the full potential of the blockchain-based gaming experience.

The introduction of blockchain technology into MapleStory Universe opens doors to a new paradigm where gaming elements like experience points, assets, and character names can carry real-world value. As part of this blockchain ecosystem, users can trade NFTs and currency in the marketplace, creating a play-and-earn environment. Nexspace aims to build a self-sustaining economy where players’ time and investments in the game can result in tangible returns, an approach that is gaining traction in the gaming industry.

Through the Pioneer Test, Nexspace will gather user data and feedback to improve the user experience, aiming to establish MapleStory Universe as a benchmark for blockchain gaming. With a dedicated fanbase and a highly anticipated feature set, MapleStory Universe is expected to make a significant impact on the gaming market upon its release.
