Actor Song Jae Rim has passed away at the age of 39. He was found deceased at his residence in Seongdong District, Seoul, on November 12 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Reports indicate that he had planned a lunch meeting with a friend that day, who subsequently found Song at his home and contacted the authorities.
The exact cause of death has not been disclosed. A police representative stated that “there are currently no indications of foul play.” Song’s family, expressing deep grief, has opted for a quiet funeral, wishing to hold a private ceremony to mourn his loss.
The sudden news of Song’s passing has left the entertainment industry in shock and sorrow. Actor Park Ho Han, a close colleague, shared his disbelief on social media, posting a photo taken with Song and writing, “I can’t believe it. I’m so sorry for not being there for you.” Actor Jung Eun-pyo, who worked alongside Song in the hit drama The Moon Embracing the Sun, also paid tribute with a photo from their time together on set, writing, “Goodbye, my friend. May your journey be peaceful.”
Song’s funeral has been arranged at Seoul’s Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital, with a viewing set up from 5:30 p.m. on November 12. The funeral procession is scheduled for November 14, and his final resting place will be at the Seoul City Crematorium.
Throughout his career, Song Jae Rim showcased his versatility across multiple media. He began his journey in 2009 with a supporting role in the film Actresses but gained significant public recognition through his portrayal of Kim Jae Woon in The Moon Embracing the Sun. His role in the series helped establish him as a prominent actor in the Korean entertainment scene.
Song also made a lasting impression in the variety show world. His appearance on MBC-TV’s We Got Married: Season 4, where he portrayed a fictional marriage with actress Kim So Eun, captivated audiences and highlighted his quirky and humorous side, contrasting with his striking appearance.
In recent years, Song had shifted his focus to the stage, finding fulfillment in theater. Earlier this year, he starred in the play Wife, which concluded in February, and he recently appeared in the musical The Rose of Versailles, which wrapped up last month, demonstrating his dedication to performing arts and live theater.
Alongside his stage work, Song continued to make an impact in television and streaming series. He appeared in various dramas, including the TVING original Queen Woo and the American OTT platform Rakuten Viki’s series Bloody Romance, where he co-starred with actress Nam Gyu-ri.
As the industry grapples with his sudden loss, tributes continue to pour in from fans and colleagues who remember him not only as a talented actor but as a beloved individual.
