Tango Gameworks, the renowned Japanese game developer, announced its revival on January 1 through its official social media channels. The studio, which had been closed following a restructuring in May 2024, has reemerged as a wholly owned subsidiary of Krafton under the new name Tango Gameworks Co., Ltd.
In its announcement, the studio expressed gratitude to fans for their support and excitement about continuing its game development journey. This revival marks a fresh chapter for the developer, with plans to build on its legacy of innovative gaming experiences.
Founded in 2010, Tango Gameworks first gained global attention with critically acclaimed titles such as The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the rhythm-action hit Hi-Fi Rush. The latter, in particular, achieved widespread acclaim, earning “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam and prestigious awards, including the 2023 Game Awards’ Best Audio Design, the 24th GDC Best Audio Award, and the 20th BAFTA Best Animation Award. Despite its successes, the studio faced closure in 2024 during a restructuring by its then-parent company.
Krafton’s acquisition of Tango Gameworks in August 2024 marked its first investment in the Japanese gaming market. This deal also secured the rights to the Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property (IP) in collaboration with Xbox and ZeniMax Media, laying the groundwork for the studio’s revival. With its reestablishment as Tango Gameworks Co., Ltd., the developer is poised to embark on the creation of new, innovative titles.
The revival represents a significant strategic move for Krafton as it aims to expand its footprint in the global gaming industry. Tango Gameworks’ proven track record of delivering unique and creative games aligns with Krafton’s vision of fostering cutting-edge game development.
Tango Gameworks’ next projects are already generating anticipation, with fans eager to see how the studio will follow up on the success of Hi-Fi Rush. As the developer begins this new chapter, it is expected to introduce fresh IPs that maintain its tradition of innovation while leveraging Krafton’s global resources.
This revival not only signals a new beginning for Tango Gameworks but also reflects Krafton’s commitment to diversifying its portfolio and investing in creative talent. As the studio gears up for its next phase, the gaming world will be watching closely to see what groundbreaking experiences it delivers next.
