Seoul’s Gangbuk District, led by Mayor Lee Soon Hee, announced the launch of Uicheon Lights Up, a winter-themed light sculpture exhibition. The display will run from December 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024, along a 170-meter stretch of Uicheon Stream between Beonchang Bridge and Uicheon Second Bridge.
This year’s theme, Winter Delights, features illuminated sculptures of popular winter snacks cherished across generations. Depictions of fish-shaped bread (Bungeoppang), skewered fish cakes (Eomuk), roasted sweet potatoes, and sugar-coated fruit skewers (Tanghulu) will brighten the Uicheon area with vibrant neon lights.
The installation includes a 100-meter segment under Beonchang Bridge adorned with galaxy-inspired lighting and a gate-like structure that complements the theme. An additional 70-meter stretch of the deck path at Uicheon Second Bridge will feature neon signs and string lights, creating a cozy and festive atmosphere.
To enhance the interactive experience, the district will host visitor participation events via the Uicheon Festa Instagram account (@with_uicheon), encouraging locals and tourists alike to engage with the display.
Mayor Lee expressed the district’s intentions behind the project, stating, “We have prepared this event to provide residents and tourists with a memorable winter experience against the picturesque backdrop of Uicheon. Moving forward, we will continue to present diverse tourism content to invigorate local tourism.”
The Uicheon Lights Up exhibition not only offers a visual treat but also promotes community engagement and tourism within the Gangbuk area. By combining nostalgic winter themes with innovative lighting, the event aims to draw visitors and create lasting memories during the colder months.
As the exhibition lights up the neighborhood, it promises to bring warmth, joy, and a touch of nostalgia to those who visit, reinforcing Uicheon as a cultural and seasonal destination in Seoul.
