LIFEPLUS is hosting the special exhibition project 'Salon Hannam 2024,' from September 4th to 14th at the Hanwha General Insurance Building, located on Dokseodang-ro 29-gil in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. This exhibition pays homage to the European salon culture that flourished from the 15th to 19th centuries, reinterpreting it as a modern platform for artistic inspiration, conversation, and patronage.
'Salon Hannam 2024' offers visitors a chance to experience art and culture anew, showcasing works that utilize various media including sound, light, painting, sculpture, and photography. The exhibition has five parts, each providing a distinct artistic experience based on different periods and themes.
The first exhibition space features the group exhibition 'Everyday Nature,' co-curated by Christopher Y. Lew, former Whitney Museum of American Art curator, and Jee Young Maeng from C/O: Curatorial Office. The 'Artists’ Room' presents 'Super Natural #1' by Brooklyn-based speaker sculptor and sound expert Devon Turnbull.
In the 'Atrium,' the Italian-British design duo Giopato & Coombes showcases their installation 'A Forest of Blossoming Wonders,' inspired by the beauty of spring in Korea. The installation features handcrafted glass spheres paired with brass structures, evoking the delicate elegance of plum blossoms.
The fourth venue, 'Salon PLUS,' incorporates collaborations with internationally renowned contemporary art galleries such as Galerie Chantal Crousel, Petzel, and Regen Projects. This space will showcase works by Fabrice Gygi, Oscar Tuazon, Kevin Beasley, and Seth Price, harmoniously integrated with contemporary designer furniture.
The final gallery features a special exhibition titled 'Imaginary Worlds: Female Surrealism,' organized in collaboration with Sotheby’s, which established its physical presence in Seoul’s Hannam Hwawon Building last year. This exhibition focuses on works by female surrealist artists.
Through 'Salon Hannam 2024,' LIFEPLUS aims to explore a new definition of the art ecosystem by collaborating with various artists, galleries, and curators. This project resonates with the numerous cultural events taking place across Seoul this September, as LIFEPLUS hopes visitors leave with enhanced appreciation and inspiration from their everyday lives.
