The Kim Chong Yung Museum’s 2026 ‘Artist of Today’ exhibition runs through Nov. 1

The Kim Chong Yung Museum in Seoul is presenting a solo exhibition by Korean artist Jang Yoo Jung, selected for the museum’s 2026 “Artist of Today” program.

Titled “The Complete Wholeness,” the exhibition examines the relationship between photographic images and physical objects. It is being held in the museum’s annex galleries through Nov. 1.

Jang begins by photographing landscapes and objects. She then recreates elements from the photographs as three-dimensional forms by hand before photographing the resulting sculptures again.

The process moves repeatedly between image and object. A photograph records one side of a subject under specific light and at a particular moment, while a sculpture has volume, weight and surfaces that can be viewed from multiple directions.

The exhibition presents photographs that initially resemble paintings, followed by the sculptures used to produce the images. Visitors can therefore trace how a recorded landscape becomes a physical form and is subsequently returned to a flat image.

The exhibition title refers to Jang’s attempt to move beyond the limitations of photography and represent an object as a complete physical presence.

By placing photographs and sculptures in sequence, the exhibition considers how images construct an impression of reality and what remains inaccessible when an object is experienced only through a screen or flat surface.
