A documentary film exploring the global fandom of BTS is set to make its world premiere.
Titled Forever We Are Young, the film will debut on March 11 (KST) at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival 2025 in the United States. It has been selected for the festival’s 24 Beats Per Second section, which highlights exceptional music documentaries.
The project took nearly three years to complete. The documentary team traveled extensively across cities including Seoul, Los Angeles, Texas, and Mexico City to meet and interview BTS fans—known as ARMY—capturing their stories and experiences.
Co-director Patty An, a professor at the University of California, emphasized BTS’s influence, stating, "BTS spread the message of 'Love Yourself,' and ARMY has created a unique fandom culture that is reshaping global fan communities."
The documentary explores themes of empathy, joy, and a deep sense of community. "This cultural phenomenon is unprecedented," An noted. "ARMY has transformed how we think about the role of fandom in modern culture."
The film also highlights how BTS fans have become symbols of hope in a divided world. The production team shared, "Through their unity, transcending gender, race, and nationality, ARMY showcases the power of collective support, which we believe will deeply resonate with audiences."
Fellow co-director Grace Lee echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the fandom's unique impact. "ARMY embodies the values BTS has shared through their music. They create meaningful connections, offering mutual support beyond just being fans of a group," she explained.
Producers described the film as "a tribute to those who love BTS and a heartfelt love letter to ARMY—one that will provide comfort and inspiration to the global fan community."
