Artist Jae Young Kang Unveils Captivating Solo Exhibition in Seoul

Seoul, August 4, 2023, SayArt – The art world is abuzz with excitement as acclaimed Korean artist Jae Young Kang presents his solo exhibition, aptly titled "Today has been cancelled," at The KwanHoon Gallery, a bastion of Korea's rich artistic history and tradition.

Kang's unique artistic approach centers around intuitively expressing objects on canvas, tapping into the flow of unconsciousness to depict the complex and entangled phenomena that surround him. His work delves into sensitive emotions, exploring everyday life and experiences through his perspective as subject matter for his creations. Infusing chaotic thoughts and profound feelings into his materials, Kang's art pushes boundaries, embracing elements of denial and exaggeration.

The exhibition showcases a collection of works completed by Kang during his time in Germany, as well as new pieces drawn upon his return to Korea. Visitors will be treated to a visual feast of light scribbles documenting daily life, afterimages remaining from the process of moving his art to larger canvases, and ever-changing landscapes. Kang's art often incorporates dream-like elements, blending people's movements with an underlying sense of anxiety, inviting viewers into a world of fantasy and wonder. This collection offers various facets of Kang's artistic exploration, offering a glimpse into his complex relationship with societal norms and his personal sense of identity.

Living apart from conventional society, Kang's non-traditional lifestyle seeps into his work, filling the canvas with exaggerated and distorted expressions. His passion and intensity manifest through a plethora of methods, from rough brushing and knife scraping to mixing diverse materials and crushing paint by hand. Kang's bold experimentation includes spraying and dripping paint, showcasing his determination to pour his inner world onto the canvas in the most evocative and uninhibited way possible.

Jae Young Kang's artistic journey began when he graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the Korea National University of Arts in 2014. He further honed his skills through the Diplom course at Burg Giebichenstein K,h Halle in Germany in 2021. Since returning to Seoul, Kang has actively participated in approximately 10 group exhibitions, leaving a lasting impression with each showcase of his talent.
