The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture is set to turn Nodeul Island into a vibrant vacation destination this August with an array of art and cultural events. From performances and exhibitions to film screenings, the island will offer a diverse cultural experience for those seeking leisure within Seoul.

Nodeul Island, situated in the Han River and featuring a concert hall, bookstore, lounge, and restaurants, will be transformed into a central urban oasis for the summer. The Seoul Foundation, a key organization under the Seoul city government responsible for cultural policy implementation, announced a series of engaging activities for the month.

Kicking off in the first week of August, the Amorepacific Empathy Foundation, in collaboration with the Seoul Foundation, will present interactive exhibitions and concerts. From August 1 for a duration of two months, the Nodeul Gallery will host “Look at ME: Youth Mind Exhibition Random Diversity 2024: The Letter.” This exhibition, curated by the Discrete Label, explores themes of anonymity, emotional translation through color, and the impact of technology on personal connections. Visitors will engage in anonymous letter exchanges facilitated by AI, fostering empathy and deeper emotional understanding.

On August 9, a concert focused on mental health will feature performances by Stella Jang, Yoon March (MRCH), and others, complementing the exhibition.

Additionally, Nodeul Island will celebrate “K-Culture Special Week,” offering a rich experience of K-pop and Korean culture. An exhibition highlighting 20 years of Korean pop music history, as recorded by EBS’s flagship music program “EBS Space,” will run until August 11.

A relay concert on August 10 will feature Broccoli You Too, Seoul Electronic Music Group, and Jannabi, followed by a “K-pop Sing-Along Day” on August 11, with performances by Tiger Disco, Park Moon-chi, Lee Boram, and NewJeansNim.

The large outdoor stage on Nodeul Island will host film screenings on a massive LED screen (20 meters wide and 5 meters tall), providing an immersive viewing experience. Weekly programs will include music films and animations. From August 13 to 16, films such as “Ray,” “Elvis,” “Rocketman,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” will be screened, showcasing legendary musicians.

On August 20 and 21, films like “Shine” and “Whiplash” will highlight genius musicians. The final week, from August 27 to 31, will feature animation films including “Moana,” “Finding Nemo,” “Corpse Bride,” “Coco,” and the live-action adaptation of "Aladdin." On August 31, a children’s orchestra from Lotte Department Store’s ESG campaign will perform movie soundtracks and classical pieces, concluding the month’s festivities.

On August 17, the special concert “Cinema Music Live with NAU&Friends” will be held on the Nodeul Island lawn, featuring pianist Lee Nau, members of rock band Purple Rain, Mellow Kitchen, and musical actors Lee Ha-kyung and Park Si-in.

Reservations for Nodeul Island’s “Culture and Arts Vacation” can be made through the Nodeul Island website (nodeul.org), and on-site participation is also available. All events are free of charge.
