Mystic Story
South Korean girl group Billlie made their highly anticipated return with the release of their first single, "Side-B: Memoirs of Echo Unseen." This four-track package comes seven months after their fourth EP, "The Billage of Perception: Chapter Three," which was released in March.
During a press conference held in Seoul on Monday, Billlie members Haram, Tsuki, Siyoon, Sheon, and Haruna discussed the album's release. Notably, Moon Sua and Suhyeon are currently on a break due to health concerns and did not participate in the album.
Haram mentioned that they are thrilled to be back with a new album, introducing a fresh storyline set in a different time and place from their original narrative. Since their debut, Billlie has followed a mystery story revolving around "Billlie goes missing on the day of the 11th when it rained purple." They have released two album series, "The Billage of Perception" and "The Collective Soul and Unconscious: Snowy Night."
"Side-B: Memoirs of Echo Unseen" serves as a spinoff of their previous narrative, as Billlie explores a new world, expanding on their adventure-seeking universe.
The album includes two songs, the main track "'Dang! (Hocus Pocus)" and the side-track "BYOB (Bring Your Own Best Friend)," which was pre-released last month. "'Dang! (Hocus Pocus)" is a perky electro-pop anthem that conveys a message of self-acceptance, emphasizing the idea that one's self-perception may differ from how others see them.
"BYOB (Bring Your Own Best Friend)" is a more easy-listening disco track that gained popularity, reaching high positions on iTunes K-pop Top Song charts in various countries and accumulating 11 million views on its music video in just three days. An interesting addition to this album is the inclusion of English versions of both songs, marking the band's first attempt at original English lyrics, aimed at connecting with their global fan base.
Billlie, which debuted in 2021 as the first K-pop idol group produced by Mystic Story, is currently operating with five members due to the temporary leave of Moon Sua and Suhyeon for health reasons. The group remains optimistic and views this as an opportunity to become a stronger team, looking forward to their return.
Reorganizing from a septet to a quintet required additional effort, but it reinforced the value of each member in the group. Billlie expressed their hope to thrive with their new songs, aspiring for good chart scores and victory on TV music shows. They also aim to be recognized with the "best girl group award" and wish to be cherished by their listeners, aiming for increased love and support from their fans.
