As the scorching summer season reaches its peak, Kim Sungkyu, renowned leader of the popular K-pop boy group Infinite, seeks to cool down the heat with his latest album, "2023 S/S Collection." Released on Wednesday, this fifth mini-album showcases a refreshing departure from his previous works, featuring an array of vibrant and lively tracks that perfectly capture the essence of summer.

During a press conference in Seoul, Kim Sungkyu expressed his creative intentions, stating, "I wanted to infuse this album with bright and energetic music, departing from my usual repertoire of serious and melancholic tracks. It's a collection of songs that embody the spirit of summer." Leading the album is the title track, "Small Talk," a captivating pop number complemented by infectious band sounds and a groovy rhythm. Kim Sungkyu expressed his affinity for the song, highlighting its ability to enthrall listeners.

Beneath the catchy melodies lies a poignant message, as Kim Sungkyu delves into the theme of contemporary communication struggles. He sheds light on the prevalent lack of meaningful conversation in today's society and the accompanying feelings of loneliness that result from the absence of genuine human connection. Through "Small Talk," Kim Sungkyu portrays a person who strives to bridge this gap by engaging in casual conversations.

In a departure from his previous solo endeavors, Kim Sungkyu takes on dancing in the music video for the title track. Reflecting on this decision, he shared, "I had refrained from incorporating dance into my previous solo albums to focus solely on singing. However, while shooting the music video for 'Small Talk,' I felt that adding some cute choreography would enhance the overall experience. In the past, I had danced extensively for Infinite's albums, but this marks the first time I dance to my own solo track."

Kim Sungkyu, renowned as both a solo artist and the leader of Infinite, a prominent second-generation K-pop boy group, has been making waves in the industry for over a decade. With Infinite celebrating their 13th debut anniversary this year, the group recently established Infinite Company, a new label spearheaded by Kim himself. Explaining the motivation behind this move, Kim shared, "After all our group members completed their mandatory military service last year, we realized there was no reason to further delay our comeback. As the leader, I wanted to establish an agency dedicated to supporting and promoting our group, thus the inception of Infinite Company. This decision was the result of extensive discussions within the group."

Fans eagerly anticipate Infinite's comeback next month, coinciding with the return of several second-generation boy bands such as Teen Top, U-Kiss, and SHINee, adding to the excitement of the moment. Kim Sungkyu, known for his introverted nature, expressed his relief at the prospect of familiar faces during this time, sharing, "As someone who tends to be introverted, I am grateful that our comeback aligns with other second-generation boy groups. Their presence will alleviate any feelings of loneliness and provide a sense of camaraderie."

Within "2023 S/S Collection," Kim Sungkyu showcases his songwriting abilities with the track "Jump," conveying a heartfelt message to his fans and the loyal supporters of Infinite. The lyrics reflect the emotions he experienced during the group's hiatus from activities, serving as a heartfelt gift to those who have patiently awaited their return.
