Reality dating shows featuring past lovers have witnessed increased popularity in South Korean entertainment. This surge is attributed to a societal shift towards more open discussions about past relationships, as experts note an uptick in audience demand for shows that directly address innate desires.

On January 4, Korean streaming service Tving reported that "Transit Love 3," a reality dating

show, claimed the top spot among the platform's original titles, contributing to a rise in paid subscribers. The show, part of Tving's successful "Transit Love" series, reunites men and women who were once in relationships, inviting them to live together for a specified period. The central theme involves participants navigating decisions about rekindling romance with their former partners or exploring new connections.

The unique concept of "Transit Love" has garnered attention for openly showcasing the process of reuniting or observing past couples seeking new relationships—a departure from the typical focus on the initial stages of meeting new people in Korean dating reality shows.

Additionally, a clip featuring Korean comedian Shin Dong-yup on the YouTube channel of model Lee So-ra, his past lover, gained popularity. In a video posted on December 6, 2023, Lee interviewed Shin about their past relationship, accumulating over 7.7 million views.

According to Hwang Young-mee, a film critic and director of the Cinerature Cultural Contents Research Institute, this trend reflects the entertainment industry's attempt to align with a societal atmosphere valuing individual freedom. She notes that reality programs addressing innate desires provide a direct means of engagement for the audience.

The evolving landscape in South Korean entertainment emphasizes individual emotions over external perceptions, signaling a significant shift in the industry's approach to dating reality shows.
