Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo have been confirmed as the lead actors in Netflix's highly anticipated Korean original series, "The Trunk." The drama, marking Seo Hyun-jin's debut on the streaming platform, follows the story of In-ji, an employee at a matchmaking company called New Marriage, portrayed by the talented actress. Gong Yoo, known for his roles in acclaimed productions like "Train to Busan," "Squid Game" (2021), and "The Silent Sea" (2021), will play Jeong-won, a music producer and co-protagonist in the series.
Based on the popular novel of the same name by author Kim Ryeo-ryeong, "The Trunk" revolves around two characters who embark on a fresh chapter of their lives after parting ways with their respective spouses. The narrative introduces the concept of "temporary marriage," a premium service offered by the matchmaking company wherein clients engage in a contractual marriage for a year with a new partner. Jeong-won, having had his ex-wife apply for the temporary marriage service on his behalf, becomes In-ji's fifth husband.
As Jeong-won and In-ji begin their lives together, their journey takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon a trunk floating in a nearby lake. The mysterious discovery adds intrigue and complexity to their evolving relationship, shaping their shared experiences in unforeseen ways.
The series will be helmed by esteemed director Kim Kyu-tae, acclaimed for his work on popular television dramas such as "It's OK, That's Love" (2014) and "Our Blues" (2022). While specific details regarding the number of episodes and the release date are yet to be unveiled, anticipation for "The Trunk" continues to build among fans eagerly awaiting the unique storytelling and on-screen chemistry promised by Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo.
