South Korean rookie group Boynextdoor is setting its sights on a bright future as they mark the release of their first EP, "Why..," on Monday. In a press conference, the members of the group expressed their dedication to creating music that resonates with fans and their commitment to evolving alongside their growing audience.
"We aspire to create music that allows listeners to empathize with our emotions. This is why we're eager to explore various genres that enable us to convey different feelings. Our goal is to mature together with our fans," said Jaehyun during the press conference.
Boynextdoor's journey of growth takes a significant step forward with the release of "Why..," their second album in just three months since their debut single "Who!" in May. The EP consists of six tracks, including three from their debut single ("But I Like You," "Serenade," and "One and Only") and three brand-new songs ("But Sometimes," "Crying," and "ABCDLove").
According to member Woonhak, the swift return was made possible because all six songs were completed before their debut. He emphasized that these songs are part of the same album, forming a cohesive narrative that explores the emotions of love and heartbreak.
"Why.." continues the story of a young boy's first love, a narrative that began with the band's debut single. The group's members prioritize expressing themselves authentically through their music, capturing the raw and unrefined emotions of youth.
The lead track, "But Sometimes," was described by Riwoo as "a relatable song for those around our age who have experienced first love." The song delves into the natural reactions and immaturity that often accompany young love.
Boynextdoor's genuine emotions shine through in their lyrics, thanks to the involvement of Jaehyun, Taesan, and Woonhak, who contributed to both the lyrics and composition of all three new songs. They aimed to create lyrics that feel like a conversation with a friend, using everyday language and gestures.
Zico, the executive producer of the band and the head of their label, KOZ Entertainment, played a crucial role in the production of "Why.." He collaborated with the members to craft the lyrics for "But Sometimes" and provided valuable guidance on the overall flow of the song.
Boynextdoor, produced by Zico, made a notable debut as the first idol group from Hybe, the parent company of K-pop giants BTS. The past three months have been a period of growth, learning, and gratitude for the members.
"I'm the most introverted among the six members. Initially, it was challenging to face the camera, but now I feel much more comfortable. Standing on stage excites me the most," reflected Riwoo.
The band's leader, Sungho, noted that their teamwork has improved, and they have a deeper understanding of their team's identity. "We're not just getting along better during music video shoots; even when we take pictures, we work together seamlessly."
In a year filled with debuts and comebacks by new boy bands, including SM Entertainment's Riize, the members of Boynextdoor expressed their desire to thrive in the competitive landscape. They hope to inspire one another and enjoy the diverse music offerings in the industry.
As they embark on this new chapter, the members of Boynextdoor are eager to connect with their fans on a deeper level. They cherish the memorable moments of their first music show performance, where they locked eyes with their fans in the audience. This time, they intend to express their gratitude and share their hearts more openly with their devoted fanbase.
"We didn't expect such attention with our debut, and we're always thinking about how we can repay the love through our performances. We want to create more opportunities to connect and communicate with our fans," said Leehan.
Sungho echoed this sentiment, emphasizing their commitment to reciprocate the love they've received and make meaningful connections with their fans through their music and performances.
