Hodu&U Entertainment, the agency representing actor Lee Sun-kyun, released a statement on Friday in response to circulating rumors of the film star's alleged involvement in drug use.
The press release, while not confirming the veracity of the rumor, acknowledged the existence of an investigation by the Incheon Police Agency for drug use, stating that Lee Sun-kyun will fully cooperate with any further inquiries. The agency expressed its apologies for any distress caused by the situation.
It was reported that the Incheon Police Agency had initiated an investigation into eight individuals, including a prominent film star, rookie actors, and nightclub employees, in connection with alleged drug use, as disclosed by local media on Thursday. Subsequently, unverified speculations swiftly linked the film star under investigation to Lee Sun-kyun.
Hodu&U Entertainment also revealed that Lee had been subjected to ongoing threats from an individual implicated in the same drug investigation case. In response, the actor has filed a lawsuit and intends to pursue vigorous legal action against the concerned party.
Lee Sun-kyun, who made his debut in 2001 through an MBC sitcom, has garnered acclaim for his leading roles in numerous films and television shows. Notably, he played a role in the Oscar-winning 2019 film "Parasite." The actor is poised to appear in two forthcoming films and TV series, including "Project Silence," "The Land of Happiness," "No Way Out," and the second season of "Dr. Brain."
