Prominent South Korean entertainment agency DSP Media announced on Thursday plans to debut a new five-member girl group this year, continuing the illustrious legacy of seminal K-pop groups such as Fin.K.L and Kara.
The company, recognized for successfully launching a string of generation-defining K-pop artists – from Sechskies and Fin.K.L to Kara, Rainbow, and April – is currently preparing for the launch. In a press release issued on Thursday, DSP Media underscored their reputation for systematic artist management and production, promising a girl group that would uphold the heritage of its successful predecessors.
Further enriching this forthcoming musical endeavor, the group's production will be a collaborative effort with Beats Entertainment, an agency founded by noted producer and rapper Kiggen. Kiggen brings a wealth of industry experience to the project, having written lyrics and produced tracks for a wide array of K-pop artists, including the likes of Seventeen, Twice, Wanna One, and WJSN.
Founded by Lee Ho-yun in 1991, DSP Media rose to prominence in the K-pop industry throughout the 90s and early 2000s. The agency's influence has endured over the decades, making it one of the stalwarts in the K-pop landscape. In a strategic move, DSP Media was acquired by agency RBW in January of the previous year. The agency now houses an impressive roster of talents, including Kara's Youngji, the mixed-gender group KARD, and the boy band Mirae.
With a track record of creating generation-spanning K-pop icons, this new girl group debut by DSP Media is highly anticipated and expected to make a significant impact on the K-pop scene.
