The M. Sironi Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari, Italy, has completed a comprehensive redevelopment project that transforms the institution's relationship with the surrounding urban environment. Located on Via Duca degli Abruzzi in the heart of Sassari, the project was designed by LERUA Studio Associato di Architettura, led by architects Fabiana Ledda and Paolo Russo.

The 1,888-square-meter renovation project, completed in 2025, represents more than just a restoration effort. According to the architects, the redevelopment "goes beyond restoration, reshaping the complex's boundaries to make it permeable, welcoming, and contemporary." The project specifically aimed to reactivate the dialogue between the educational institution and the surrounding urban fabric through thoughtful architectural interventions.

The design team included several collaborators, with Studio CST, Engineer Francesco Sanna, Architect Riccardo Onnis, and Geologist Maddalena Moroso contributing to the architectural design. The engineering work was handled by IP Ingegneria, while construction was carried out by ABE. The project utilized materials from various manufacturers including Secco Sistemi, Amonn, Diasen, Fassa Bortolo, MARAZZI, PREFA, and Schindler.

Photographer Aldo Amoretti documented the completed project, capturing how the redevelopment has created a more open and accessible campus environment. The academy's transformation reflects contemporary approaches to educational architecture, emphasizing the importance of creating spaces that serve both the institution and the broader community.

The project demonstrates how careful architectural planning can revitalize educational facilities while respecting their historical context. By making the complex more permeable and welcoming, the redevelopment ensures that the M. Sironi Academy of Fine Arts will continue to serve as an important cultural and educational anchor in Sassari's urban landscape.
