A new mural celebrating children's rights is currently being created along Schöneberger Ufer in Oberbarmen, bringing together local and international artists in a community-focused art project. The collaborative artwork is being realized by Wuppertal artist Thomas Kubig and the international artist group "Cup of Color," with the mural location situated near the historic dye works building.
The project's foundation was laid in July when local children participated in a special workshop where they painted motifs related to children's rights themes. During the same period, the young participants were photographed during a dance and movement action session, capturing dynamic moments of childhood expression and creativity.
This week, from October 13-17, 2025, one of the photographs from the July dance session is being transformed into a large-scale artwork that will cover the upper half of the building's wall. The artistic process involves translating the photographic image into a painted mural format, preserving the energy and movement captured in the original photograph.
The lower portion of the wall is being designed as a community-created wall newspaper focusing on children's rights themes. Local children from the neighborhood are actively participating in this section of the project, with organizers emphasizing that every child in the area has the opportunity to contribute to the artwork. This inclusive approach ensures that the mural truly represents the voices and perspectives of the community's youngest residents.
The completed mural will be officially unveiled on Friday, October 17, 2025, with a celebration festival marking the project's completion. The event is expected to bring together the participating children, their families, local residents, and art enthusiasts to celebrate both the artistic achievement and the important message about children's rights that the mural represents.
