K-pop sensation NewJeans ignited the stage at Summer Sonic 2023, captivating a crowd of 30,000 festivalgoers in one of Japan's largest music festivals on Saturday.
The enthralling performance unfolded at Tokyo's Zozo Marine Stadium at noon and marked the girl group's official debut on the Japanese music scene.
During the exhilarating 40-minute set, NewJeans delivered an impressive lineup of 11 hit songs that spanned their musical journey since their debut in 2022. From the catchy tunes of "Cookie," "Attention," and "Hype boy" — the tracks that marked their entrance into the industry — to their latest chart-toppers like "Super Shy," "Cool With You," and "ETA," the band left an indelible mark on the festival's vibrant atmosphere.
Addressing the euphoric crowd in Japanese, the group members expressed their gratitude, saying, "We were able to successfully finish our performance thanks to everyone here. Thank you for sticking around until the end. We are so happy to be here and we hope to see you again."
For NewJeans, the invitation to perform at Summer Sonic holds special significance, as it marked their official foray into the Japanese music scene. The group's agency, ADOR, noted that the opportunity at Summer Sonic was particularly meaningful, given that the band had not yet debuted in Japan before their appearance.
NewJeans made their initial debut in the K-pop scene in August 2022, quickly ascending to the heights of music charts. Their blend of easygoing yet high-quality music has resonated with listeners worldwide, cementing their status as a rising force in the global music landscape.
